Vivace RF microneedling – what it is, how it works and how it might benefit you

Vivace microneedling is a relatively new form of dermatological treatment but is already considered to be an improved, less invasive alternative to traditional microneedling procedures.

Vivace treatments help rejuvenate the skin by toning down the look of common wrinkles, blemishes and marks that appear as skin naturally ages. This new treatment requires next to no downtime, can show immediate results and is often pain-free.

But is it right for you and how does it compare with alternative skin treatment methods?

Find a clinic or practitioner near you and enjoy a risk-free booking process thanks to free in-clinic consultations and the option to pay in-clinic. Also, you can now split the cost of your treatment into four equal, interest-free instalments using Tabby.

What is Vivace microneedling?

Vivace microneedling is a refinement of traditional microneedling, in which tiny sterile needles puncture the skin and promote cell regrowth and skin rejuvenation.

The Vivace device used for the treatment has 36 gold-tipped needles, all working alongside radiofrequency (RF) energy to smooth the skin. This can reduce pain, recovery time and the time it takes to see results.

Many clinicians suggest people undergo at least three Vivace treatments to see the best results.

It can help to:

  • Soften wrinkles.
  • Minimise pores.
  • Tone down discolouration and dark spots.
  • Reduce acne and acne scarring.
  • Tighten skin.
  • Improve skin tone and texture.

How does Vivace work?

The process itself is like traditional microneedling procedures, but there are a few things to be aware of before booking your appointment.

The science behind it

Vivace microneedling treatments use an RF machine that emits energy onto and under the skin. The energy heats up and constricts the tissue and cells, tightening the skin. The energy also encourages elastin and collagen production, accelerating skin rejuvenation.

Alongside this, the handheld device also uses tiny needles to penetrate the skin and encourage healing and cell regrowth. Vivace treatments also use a specialised treatment serum and cooling peptide mask to help encourage cell healing.

Before the treatment

At a consultation, your clinician will explain to you how the procedure works in more depth, what you’re hoping to treat, and any preparations you may need to take. These often include:

  • Limiting sun exposure.
  • Stopping taking retinol-based products.
  • Avoiding skin-irritating products.

During the treatment

  1. A numbing cream is applied to your face, where it rests for around half an hour.
  2. Your clinician will start the treatment by moving the handheld device over your skin.
  3. After the needle and RF treatment, the specialised Vivace aftercare serum will be applied, along with the peptide cooling mask.
  4. The procedure should last from 30 minutes to an hour, and you are free to go home straight away.

The procedure itself is relatively painless after the numbing cream has been applied, with only minor ‘pinching’ discomfort and heat felt during the treatment.

Side-effects are usually quite mild and resolve after a few days. They often include:

  • Minor swelling and redness.
  • Pinpoint bleeding and scabbing.
  • Rarely, some mild bruising.

Next to no recovery time is required, and you are free to return to work and your usual activities immediately after treatment.

Alternative treatments

Surgical facelift

A facelift is an invasive surgical procedure where the skin is tightened by lifting it and stitching it behind the ears or neck.

  • Permanent results.
  • Only requires one treatment.

  • Much more invasive.
  • More intense side-effects and longer recovery time.
  • More expensive – Dhs32,000 to Dhs40,000.

Chemical peels

A chemical peel rejuvenates the skin by using acids to remove damaged skin cells and encouraging regrowth.

  • Non-invasive.
  • Exfoliates skin beyond the surface level – like microneedling.
  • Less expensive than Vivace microneedling – Dhs300 to Dhs1,000.

  • Requires repeat treatments.
  • Results are not permanent.

This treatment works by using fine crystals and a handheld vacuum, or a diamond-tipped wand, to exfoliate and remove excess and dead skin cells, prompting the skin to heal and rejuvenate.

  • Non-invasive and relatively painless.
  • Less expensive than microneedling – Dhs750

  • Results are not permanent – around three sessions required.
  • Only works on the surface of the skin.

Non-surgical facelift

This is a minimally invasive procedure that can use fat, dermal filler, and Botox injections to give the face a fuller look.

  • Results last longer than peels and microneedling.
  • Varied methods to choose from.

  • More invasive than microneedling.
  • Treatments must be repeated every four to six months.
  • Much more expensive than other methods – Dhs11,000 to Dhs24,000 (full face).

Some prescribed and over-the-counter creams and serums can help reduce lines, wrinkles, acne, and discolouration. Speak to your pharmacist or doctor for more information on the best topical treatments for your skin.

  • Accessible both on prescription and in shops.
  • Non-invasive and less expensive than procedural treatments.

  • Results may not be as evident as microneedling and other procedures.
