BodyTite - what it is and where it can be most effective

BodyTite is an innovative body sculpting treatment and a far less invasive alternative to other methods of body contouring.

The technique uses directional radiofrequency to target and liquefy fat cells, tightening your skin and body. It is commonly applied to areas often high in fat content, such as the stomach, thighs, and upper arms.

But how does BodyTite compare with other similar procedures, and is it right for you?

Find a clinic or practitioner near you and enjoy a risk-free booking process thanks to free in-clinic consultations and the option to pay in-clinic. Also, you can now split the cost of your treatment into four equal, interest-free instalments using Tabby.

What is BodyTite?

This skin tightening treatment is becoming increasingly popular, since only a few small incisions need to be made.

Scientifically, the treatment is known as radiofrequency (RF) assisted lipocoagulation and is used to gently melt fat by tightening skin and promoting natural contours of the body. BodyTite can also be paired with liposuction to create a more effective treatment, but, generally, these are two independent procedures.

The RF and subsequent heat applied within the body is controlled and gentle, breaking down fat quickly and efficiently.

How does BodyTite work?

BodyTite is mainly used to assist in the tightening of loose skin after weight loss or pregnancy but can be performed on many body types.

The science behind it

BodyTite uses an RF generator to power a cannula electrode that is inserted into the body. A current then bounces between the generator and cannula, resulting in the heating up, breaking down and liquidation of fat cells.

The more fat within the targeted area, the more heat can be generated, resulting in a more effective procedure. Therefore, BodyTite abdomen and stomach treatments are the most common, along with upper arms and legs.

Before the treatment

Find a treatment near you with our clinic locator.

At consultation stage, your clinician will examine you, discuss your body goals, and provide you with advice and instructions in preparation for your BodyTite treatment. These may include:

  • Stopping smoking and drinking alcohol before and after treatment.
  • Avoiding sun overexposure and UV tanning.
  • What you can eat and drink before your appointment.
  • Activities and exercises to avoid.
  • What medications to avoid – such as anti-inflammatories and blood-thinning medication (aspirin, ibuprofen and so on).

During the treatment

  1. You will be placed under general anaesthetic before your surgeon starts the procedure.
  2. They will then proceed to make a small number of small incisions where BodyTite is to be administered.
  3. The RF cannula will be inserted, and the electrode current will begin heating up and breaking down the surrounding fat.
  4. Once the procedure is finished, you will be taken to a recovery room for observation.

There are a few important points to keep in mind post-treatment, including:

  • Avoiding heavy lifting or strenuous exercise before you are fully healed.
  • How to clean and dress your wounds.
  • Advice on wearing compression garments.
  • Painkillers you can take.
  • What to eat and drink after your procedure.
  • Recovery time – larger areas usually take longer to heal, but most patients start getting back to normal within a week.

What are the side-effects of BodyTite? Plus, everything else you need to know

There are a few extra things to consider before making the decision to undergo treatment.

What are the side-effects of BodyTite?

  • Bruising and swelling – this usually goes away within a few weeks as your cells begin to heal.
  • Skin redness and sensitivity – this should begin to calm down after a few weeks.
  • Your skin will become uneven – this can happen around the three-week mark, when your body is starting to reshape itself after your treatment. This should right itself within a few months.
  • Skin tightness – this is completely natural and is a sign that your body is reshaping itself around your new contours.

How much does BodyTite cost?

The typical BodyTite treatment cost starts at around Dhs1,000, depending on the size of the area.

Alternative treatments

  • Liposuction – this traditional fat loss treatment can be paired with BodyTite for an extra effective treatment. Costs are higher and recovery time is longer with traditional liposuction.
  • CoolSculpting – this procedure is as minimally-invasive as BodyTite. But rather than heating fat to promote break-down, CoolSculpting freezes cells to destroy and deflate them.
  • Tummy tuck – the more traditional surgical procedure for instant results. It carries a similar price tag to BodyTite, though can sometimes be more expensive.
  • Vaser lipo – like BodyTite, vaser lipo uses ultrasound waves to liquefy fat. This is then drawn out with a needle, meaning less tissue damage.
  • Laser skin resurfacing (LSR) – rather than tightening skin, LSR removes unwanted scarring and discolouration to create a smoother surface-level look. This method is used mainly on the face.
