Six women we love for International Women’s Day

Written by

At selfologi, we’ll take any opportunity to sing the praises of some of the wonderful women we work with. And this 8th March, we are championing six of the exceptional female doctors we partner with – and we even asked a few for their most empowering advice to share with you.

So, here’s to the women who have led the way in their fields, and inspire all of us to work with passion and determination, this International Women’s Day.

Find a clinic or practitioner near you and enjoy a risk-free booking process thanks to free in-clinic consultations and the option to pay in-clinic. Also, you can now split the cost of your treatment into four equal, interest-free instalments using Tabby.

Dr Ghaydaa Sayed Ahmed Shawky, Bissan Medical Center

When it comes to women who do it all, Dr. Ghaydaa is one of the best, and busiest. When she isn’t helping to run one of her family’s many businesses - or dreaming of becoming a chef – she is one of the most sought-after aesthetic doctors in Dubai. Her skill lies in enhancing her client’s natural features, rather than changing them completely. “My favourite thing about my job is a patient’s reaction as soon as you hand them a mirror,” she tells us. “Or when they send you a text a few days later saying they like the results.”

The one piece of advice she wants every woman to know?

“Don’t be too hard on yourself. Life is hard and its okay to take a break sometimes,” she says. “It’s okay to feel down. You’ve got to pick yourself up and dust yourself off, have a little spa day. And then just resume.”

Dr. Arwa Ali, Zo Skin Centre by Zein Obagi – Abu Dhabi

Originally from Syria, Dr. Arwa has 16 years-experience. Passionate about her own professional and personal growth, when she isn’t treating her patients at Zo Skin Centre, she is attending workshops and conferences. She also trains other dermatologists in the UAE in injectable techniques. A true mentor to many.

Dr. Belkais Marwan, DermaPremier Skin Clinic

Originally from Egypt, Dr. Belkais opened her own private clinic in Dubai in 2014. Her speciality at work is injectables and her passion lies in the treatment of scars. “I want to help people in the wound healing stage,” she says. “And I constantly want to add new technology and techniques to my clinic.”

What makes Dr. Belkais special at selfologi? Her honesty and professionalism.

“Work with honesty and with passion. Everyone working this way will be successful, she tells us. “I can be a representative of my country and my field, and I can prove that a woman can work and achieve success and that there is no difference between a woman and a man.

“Woman are kind-hearted,” she continues. “We are thoughtful enough to succeed and prove ourselves in any field.”

Dr. Marwa Etish, The One Clinic

At The One Clinic, Dr. Marwa specialises in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect the skin, hair, scalp and nails, as well as performing cosmetic procedures. Her friendly demeanour and 18 years of experience translate well on her Instagram page where she educates others on the best treatment for them.

Dr. Sawsan Merhej, Dona Medical Clinic

While Dona Medical Clinic may only be 10 months old, Dr. Merhej is one of our most experienced doctors with 20 years working at prestigious hospitals in the GCC. With a speciality in women’s health, she enjoys all aspects of her work from fillers to laser techniques and surgical procedures. “I want to expand into infertility treatment; to support women who want to get pregnant,” she tells us.

What piece of advice does she want every woman to know this International Women’s Day?

“Trust yourself, and believe in yourself, always,” she says. “Don’t let anybody break your ambition. You can do whatever you want, as long as you believe in it.”

Dr. Asmaa Al Khatib, Lavish Medical Center

With a focus on preventative skincare and skin health, Dr. Asmaa is a skilled dermatologist who can perform most aesthetic procedures with ease, from Botox and PRP; HIFU and threads; laser peels or cryotherapy. Hardworking, dedicated, and highly motivated, she is popular with her peers and patients alike.
